Mark: Hey, folks. Let’s learn a little bit more about the oil and gas industry.

[Music]

Today, we’re sitting here with John Burns with Sonim Technologies. Hi, John.

John: Good morning.

Mark: John is the founding CEO of Sonim and he’s one of our original clients in Silicon Valley. So, I want to talk a little bit about how modalpoint impacted your business.

So, when we first engaged, I think you’re a bit skeptical of us, were you?

John: Just a little bit.

Mark: And then, once we engaged when we came and sat down with you and your direct reports, kind of talk us through what happened and how impacted your business?

John: Well, the first and kind of most important thing we did was to conduct a proper market segmentation. The energy industry or the oil and gas industry is very, very vast, so the first step was to find out which sub-segments of this would find the Sonim’s offerings to be the most valuable, I mean the most pertinent.

Mark: Right. This industry is so huge and if you don’t know where to focus your attention, you’ll spend hours and hours and days and days and years and years and tons of money and never sell anything.

So, the first thing is we help you find the right segment of the market, then what happened?

John: Then we began to craft to go to market strategies, so we looked at the different sales and marketing investments or tactics we could put in place to successfully execute against that sub-segment.

Mark: Okay. So, that’s number two. That marketing plan is vital. You have to know where the low-hanging fruit is. Quite literally who do you want to go after first and who do you want after last.

All right, John, so if you have to think about modalpoint’s impact to your top line, what would you say?

John: That you guys helped us identified the right portion of the market to go after. We invested in a couple of full time, people from a sales marketing perspective. We’ve built out a very healthy pipeline over the course of the last year and we started closing business about six months into this, so it’s had a real impact on the company.

Mark: That’s great. It’s great for me to hear that we actually helped you. So, if you’re going to give a review of modalpoint in stars from 1 to 5, what would you give?

John: So, I would say it got a 5 on the market segmentation portion of this which again was the most important. I’d say it’s a little bit early to draw conclusions on exactly how much ROI that we’re going to see, but it’s definitely so far so good.
